This session will provide an opportunity to explore a wide variety of digital liberal arts tools and methods. We will begin the hour by introducing tools for transcription and translation (FromthePage), data visualization (Flourish), digital storytelling (Twine), and open publishing (Pressbooks), and then attendees can circulate and spend time with these tools and more on their own. We will have members of the DLA Team available to answer questions about the equipment and methods on display. Lunch will be provided.

Research Data Management
November 2, 2023 12-1 pm

with Louann Terveer and Tam Perlman
in the Digital Resource Center (lower level of library)

Join library staff, Academic Information Associates and other faculty to discuss what your research data management needs are and what support would be helpful to co-locate in a potential “faculty research portal.” Meet Dryad, a data repository to help address funder and publisher open requirements. We will explore topics such as what funders are looking for in grant research data management plans, why metadata is important, and how and why to make your data open and FAIR. Lunch will be provided.

Introduction to GIS
November 16, 2023 12-1 pm

with Ashley Nepp and Brooke Schmolke
in the Digital Resource Center (lower level of library)

Join Ashley Nepp, GIS and Cartography Instructor, and Brooke Schmolke, Manager of the Digital Resource Center, for a hands-on introduction to GIS methods. Attendees will get to experiment with ArcGIS online and learn more about the possibilities of working with this tool. They will also learn about possible applications of StoryMaps in the classroom, and see an example of a research project incorporating GIS. Come with your questions and ideas. No experience with GIS necessary! Lunch will be provided.
