Assignment inspired by Miriam Posner

Grade value: 10% of your final grade

Due: Friday, April 12th by class, email to me at aquigley@macalester.edu.

Please fill out Museum Visit Preference Form by Monday, February 12th.

The third written assignment is a Museum Site Visit Report, and will be due at the end of the thirteenth week of class (Friday, April 12th). The report will be about 600-700 words, or about 2-3 pages (or 1.5 pages single spaced) . This report is more informal than the online exhibition review, but also provides you with an opportunity to practice critique. You will each visit a museum that has incorporated technology within an exhibition context.

Description:

Visit a museum that has applied a technology within an exhibition context. Observe how visitors use it and try it yourself.  Write a 600–700-word essay on the strengths and weaknesses of these applications.

  • How do you define technology in the exhibition space you visited?
  • What technologies did you observe?
  • Are they effective tools in enhancing the museum visitors’ experience? Explain why or why not.
  • If you view more than one exhibition, you can compare and contrast the use of technology in the different settings.
